About Grinstein JEwelry & Design

Grinstein Jewelry & Design is the atelier of goldsmith Richard Grinstein. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Richard studied metalsmithing at Cranbrook Academy of Art. He has been designing beautiful jewelry for his store as well as unique custom creations for nearly 40 years. Opening his first shop in 1976, he has grown to become a long-standing, familiar and trusted presence in downtown Birmingham.

Inspired both by Art Nouveau and Modernism, the seemingly paradoxical combination of these two influences has led to Richard’s unique style. Working in platinum, gold, palladium and sterling silver along with unusual colored gemstones and diamonds, he provides objects of quality and beauty for clients who feel the need for art to be an integral part of their lives.

As well as Richard's own studio work, we offer in-store jewelry repair services. Whether you have a broken chain, a ring to be sized or need a more complex & delicate repair on an antique piece, we can do it. We are one of the few stores in the Detroit area with a laser welder, so we are able to work on pieces that cannot be repaired using conventional technology. We also offer pearl and bead re-stringing services. Quotes and expected finish dates are given up front.

Complimentary retail replacement estimates are available upon request on all the jewelry we sell. We encourage regular visits to the store for free ring cleaning and check ups.

Grinstein's also carries the beautifully crafted Van Craeynest line of engagement rings and wedding bands, as well as a hand-selected collection of fine antique jewelry.
