About Richard

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Richard studied metalsmithing at Cranbrook Academy of Art. He has been designing beautiful jewelry for his store as well as unique custom creations for nearly 40 years. Opening his first shop in 1976, he has grown to become a long-standing, familiar and trusted presence in downtown Birmingham.

Inspired both by Art Nouveau and Modernism, the seemingly paradoxical combination of these two influences has led to Richard’s unique style. Working in platinum, gold, palladium and sterling silver along with unusual colored gemstones and diamonds, he provides objects of quality and beauty for clients who feel the need for art to be an integral part of their lives.

About Grinstein Jewelry & Design

Inspired both by Art Nouveau and Modernism, the seemingly paradoxical combination of these two influences has led to Richard’s unique style. Working in platinum, gold, palladium and sterling silver along with unusual colored gemstones and diamonds, he provides objects of quality and beauty for clients who feel the need for art to be an integral part of their lives.

As well as Richard's own studio work, we offer in-store jewelry repair services, ring re-sizing & cleaning. Grinstein's also carries the beautifully crafted Van Craeynest line of engagement rings and wedding bands, as well as a hand-selected collection of fine antique jewelry.
