Grinstein Jewelry and Design is the workshop and gallery of Richard Grinstein. Richard has been creating his distinctive designs in gold, platinum, and silver since 1976. In addition to his own work, the shop carries bridal jewelry by noted west coast goldsmiths Van Craeynest, as well as a select assortment of elegant vintage jewelry. Jewelry repairs welcome - specialized in laser welding services.

Grinstein Jewelry and Design is proud to announce the second annual Grinstein Jewelry Scholarship Competition for Oakland County high school students. 

All high schools, public and private, with jewelry programs within Oakland County are eligible to participate. High School Junior and Senior students only



Three independent and esteemed jewelry professionals will judge the competition. Each student may enter one piece of wearable jewelry created within the past year. Pieces will be judged on design, creativity, and craftsmanship. The use of commercially made materials (such as chains or findings) is permissible, but is not encouraged.  

Maximum size of display stand will be 11”H x 9"W x 7”D. Entries must be able to fit on this size stand or smaller. 

The prizes:

The prizes for the top 3 winners are scholarships of $500, $250, and $100. There will also be 3 Honorable Mention awards. All entrants will receive a gemstone to use in making future jewelry.


Applications (see bottom of page) must be completed and submitted online AND pieces dropped off at Grinstein Jewelry & Design, on or before Tuesday May 1st, 2018. *Please note the store is closed on Monday April 29th.


Your piece of jewelry should have a small, blank label (like a price tag on string, not a sticker) tied to it and must be submitted in a one gallon size plastic zip bag. Please do not write on the zip bag, but enclose a slip of paper with your name on it. Please provide one printed photograph of your piece - do not write any information on the image front or back.

All requested materials must be provided for the application to be registered.  Late entries will not be accepted.  

Display and Other dates:

All pieces will be on display at Grinstein Jewelry & Design Thursday May 10th through Saturday May 12th. Prize-winners will be announced at an awards event, at Grinstein Jewelry and Design. The event, open to the public, will take place on Saturday, May 12th from 5.00pm -7.00pm. Entrants have the option to sell their displayed pieces to the public. All winning entries will remain on display through Saturday, May 26th, 2018. Special arrangements can be made if winning pieces are needed back sooner.
