Grinstein Jewelry and Design is the workshop and gallery of Richard Grinstein. Richard has been creating his distinctive designs in gold, platinum, and silver since 1976. In addition to his own work, the shop carries bridal jewelry by noted west coast goldsmiths Van Craeynest, as well as a select assortment of elegant vintage jewelry. Jewelry repairs welcome - specialized in laser welding services.

About Us All

Richard Grinstein, Owner & Goldsmith

Grinstein Jewelry & Design really is my home from home - I love cycling to the studio with my dog Coco to settle into a busy day of designing, creating and talking with clients. I have been in Birmingham since 1976, so many of my clients feel more like old friends now.

My style is inspired both by Art Nouveau and Modernism. It seems paradoxical, but the combination of these two influences is, I think, what makes my design style unique.  Working in platinum, gold, palladium and sterling silver along with with unusual colored gemstones and diamonds, my aim is to provide objects of quality and beauty for clients who feel the need for art to be an integral part of their lives.

As well as my own studio work, we offer in-store jewelry repair services, ring re-sizing & cleaning. We also carry the beautifully crafted Van Craeynest line of engagement rings and wedding bands, as well as a hand-selected collection of fine antique jewelry.

I hope you visit my store and discover something you have to have! Nothing makes me happier than seeing a piece of jewelry go home with the person it was clearly meant for all along.

STAFF

Studio Manager and Stringer Zanna Metcalf

I started here in 2011 as a part time gallery assistant.  I pretty much have a hand in everything now -  most important, taking care of our clients.

My personal immediate response to Richard and his work was that I felt at home. I grew up in a small countryside village in Devon, England surrounded by rolling hills, wild flower hedgerows and craggy tors. I see these motifs from nature show up very subtly everywhere in his work. Once you meet Richard, you can tell how much he loves what he does and how that comes through in his work.

I am proud of our continued success and hope we keep on reaching people with Richard's designs.

I have been working with Richard for about 5 years now doing jewelry bench work. My background is in sculpture (in fact, that's what I spend most of my time doing) and metalwork
